WELCOME TO PERIYAR UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

     Periyar University Library was established in 1997. It has 98,482 volumes of text and reference books on various disciplines. The library subscribes to 124 National and International journals and 13 leading Newspapers. The library followes the open access system and provides its service to meet the requirements of P.G.Students, M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars and faculty members of the University. University Library has various sections such as Reference Section, Text book Section, Books for competitive Examinations, Theses Dissertations Section, Back Volumes Section, Reprographic Section, Question Banks etc. Library also extends its facilities to the students and faculties of affiliated colleges.

Digital Talking Library

 

Digital Talking Library           A digital talking library, also known as a digital audio book library, is a platform or service that provides access to a collection of audio recordings of books and other written materials by Periyar University Library. Digital talking library play a vital role in promoting literacy, providing educational resources, and facilitating access to literature for individuals who face challenges in reading print materials. They offer a convenient and inclusive way for people to enjoy books and engage with knowledge regardless of their reading abilities or preferences. They may offer features like adjustable playback speed, audio navigation controls, and text highlighting synchronized with the narration to aid comprehension by NVDA software.

SMS/e Mail alert services

 

SMS/e Mail alert services

          This service imparts information through sms/e mail alerts to the students whenever they take/return books from the University Library.

Competitive Examinations Coaching Centre

 

Competitive Examinations Coaching Centre           This section had furnished civil service competitive exam books for the aspirants to enhance their knowledge in diverse fields. Since it has ample number of extraordinary books to satisfy the requirements of needy the candidates. It highly helps them to crack the civil service exam. The competitive examination coaching centre is located in Periyar University Library (Third Floor) to conduct free coaching classes for the students.

Gate Entry System

 

Gate Entry System

          The Gate Entry Software presents an attempt to integrate gate register with open-source software. Using this option, the students library card will be scanned by the system during entry and exit at the library gate, and this information will be stored in the new table which we have added to the database. Using this tool various reports can be generated for various library management purposes.

WEB - OPAC

 

WEB - OPAC

          Web Based Online Public Access Catalogue helps the library users to access to information from anywhere in the world when OPAC is available on the internet. The library users also find it easier to learn and use the OPACs from different library systems. Web-based OPAC allows for linking to other information resources such as tables of content, full-text documents, author, title, publisher, publication year etc.

Meditation Corner

          Meditation is a technique used for thousands of years to develop awareness of the present moment. It can involve practices to sharpen focus and attention, connect to the body and breath, develop acceptance of difficult emotions, and even alter consciousness. So Our University library started a Meditation Centre within the library for its users.

Group Discussion Area

 

Group Discussion Area

          Group Discussion section is created in Periyar University Library for the purpose of students. It involves students sharing ideas or activities. The students gather together to discuss the topics, everyone in the group represents their perspective and to explore the underlying meaning of their data & research.

Dravidian Studies

                                                              Dravidian Studies

          Dravidian studies (also Dravidology) is the academic field devoted to the Dravidian languages, literature, and culture. In light of this the library had initiated a separate section for Dravidian studies which has been instrumental in strengthening the research in the areas of the Dravidian literature. In addition to that the library provides diverse books on the subject of Dravidology.

8 Walk Path

 

8 Walk Path

          When walking in 8 shaped style our entire body is twisted and all our organs get activated. It will give miraculous benefits like good eye sight, reduce blood pressure, cures foot cracks and all types of pains. In this regard the library had set up two numbers of 8 shaped walk paths near the library amidst the bamboo trees, which also supplies good oxygen for the advantage of the visitors and the public. It is located in front of Periyar University Library.

 

Oxygen Library

 

Oxygen Library

          The world is fighting to reduce carbon foot print to serve people from the impact of global warming. Bamboo plays the major role in the balance of oxygen & carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Considering these facts Periyar University had setup the Oxygen Library Park surrounded by bamboo bushes & it provides daily newspapers, which create awareness about Global Warming & it supplies a good amount of oxygen for the students. The Students cherish the library for its natural setup.

Children's Corner

 

Children's Corner

          The Library has a special section for children, which provides various sources to inculcate new information and ideas into the young minds. It has sources like children's story books, dictionaries, magazines, illustrated books etc. in both Tamil & English, which enhance them to improve their knowledge and understanding. It is a great way to encourage children of school age to continue to visit library and read books.

Amazing Salem

 

Amazing Salem

          The Periyar University Thiruvalluvar Library had exhibited a presentation on the theme "Amazing Salem". It displays all special things and pride of Salem like Yercaud, Tanmag, Sago Serve, Adhiyamaan kottai etc. The main reason behind organising such presentation is to provide platform to visitors to know about the important aspects and facets of Salem.
