IRINS

 


Research Management System  using IRINS

The Periyar University Library created faculty members profile using IRINS. The IRINS would support to integrate the existing research management system such as HR system, course management, grant management system, institutional repository, open and commercial citation databases, scholarly publishers, etc. It has integrated with academic identity such as ORCID ID, ScopusID, Research ID, Microsoft Academic ID, Google Scholar ID for ingesting the scholarly publication from various sources.

Web Based Faculty Profile using Vidwan

Periyar University Library using VIDWAN research community to maintain university academic profile and identify the experts from various subject domains in one place. It’s premier database of profiles of scientists / researchers and other faculty members working at leading academic institutions and other R & D organisation involved in teaching and research in India. It provides important information about expert's background, contact address, experience, scholarly publications, skills and accomplishments, researcher identity, etc.

National Digital Library

Periyar University Library is a member of NDLI Club. NDLI-Club is a platform for conducting learning-oriented events, both online and offline, for students of an institute using contents of NDLI and experts to deliver talks or conduct sessions.

University Library provides Remote Access Facility to Faculty Members and Research Scholars to access Digital Library Resources through user name and password provided by the Library. Registered members can access the resources 24/7 anywhere.

Our university library using customized  learning management system (LMS) ‘Ulektz’ is an online education hub that provides a large and indispensable set of features to support educational activities such as classroom learning, distance education and continuing education.

RFID technology

 

RFID-(Radio Frequency Identification)

          Periyar University Library bring forth RFID-(Radio Frequency Identification) technology is often integrated with security gates in libraries to enhance the detection and prevention of unauthorized removal of library books. These tags contain unique identification information that can be read by RFID readers. RFID security gates are installed at library exits. If a book with an active RFID tag passes through the security gate without proper deactivation or checkout, the RFID readers in the gate detect the tag's presence and trigger an alarm. The alarm can be audible and visual alerting library staff to a potential security breach. When a patron returns an item, the RFID tag is typically reactivated or marked as returned, indicating that the item has been properly checked in.

Intelligent Shelf (Self Return) is also available in our library. That can be automatically returned, when that borrowed books placed on intelligent shelf.

          Periyar University Library provides Intelligent Shelf (Self Return) Return systems are automated machines placed within libraries that allow library users to independently check out and return materials without the assistance of library staff. These systems are designed to enhance the efficiency and convenience of library transactions. Self-issue and return systems help streamline library operations by reducing queues, minimizing manual handling of items, and automating routine tasks.

Kiosk (Self Issue) machine is available in our university. This machine can be used to borrow return, renew items and view account information by using either your student ID or student ID card.

Koha Automated Library

 

KOHA

          Periyar University Library automated with using Koha is an open-source integrated library system (ILS) that provides comprehensive management of library operations. Koha allows librarians to create and manage a library's catalog. Koha automates the circulation processes, including check-in, check-out, and renewals. It handles patron records, manages due dates, calculates fines. Koha provides a user-friendly and customizable OPAC interface for library patrons to search and access the library's collection and view item availability. Koha provides built-in reporting tools that allow librarians to generate a wide range of reports and statistical analyses. It helps libraries track circulation trends, collection usage, and other relevant data.
